In the afternoon of April 27th, a press conference was held at a hotel in Thailand’s capital Bangkok for the 2015 SUPER GT Round 3 Thailand “BURIRAM SUPER GT RACE” (June 20th & 21st).

Last year, SUPER GT Round 7, held on October 4th and 5th, was hosted at Buriram United International Circuit (BRIC) as the first ever major race event held at the circuit. The circuit became familiar to the Japanese SUPER GT fans as “Chang International Circuit” since the naming rights of the circuit was decided to a major beer brand of Thailand just before the SUPER GT event.

It was announced once again during the press conference that the Thai event will be held as the third round of the series this year on June 20th and 21st at Chang International Circuit.

This year’s press conference was attended by Deputy Governor of Sports Authority of Thailand Mr. Sakol. Motorsports is now positioned as a sports which the country promotes after a success of SUPER GT last year as well as a number of racing events hosted subsequently at Change International Circuit.

Alongside of the Deputy Governor, GTA Chairman Masaaki Bandoh and Buriram United International Circuit(BRIC)Project Chairman Newin Chidchob also appeared on the stage. Furthermore, members of Toyota and Honda of Thailand as well as many guests from the sponsors of the circuit were present at the venue, creating a very lively atmosphere for the press conference. Ticket will go on sale from May 8th, but there was a booth for promoting ticket sales already set up at the venue.

Newin in his address said, “We are currently in preparation to ensure this year’s event will be a success like last year. Personally, I am expecting the Thai team that is planned to participate as a wild card to finish with a good result.” He seemed to set his expectation even higher for this year’s event.

BRIC Project Director Tanaisiri Chanvitayarom introduced the plan to further enrich the facility of the circuit and described that a temporary pit is currently under construction for this year’s SUPER GT event. He also explained that they are in preparation to enter a Thai team as a wild card.

In his explanation regarding this year’s Thai event, Chairman Bandoh guaranteed to showcase a race exceeding last year, “This will be the second year and we are putting our efforts in improving the environment even further than last year as well as to carry out high quality race operation in a hope that more and more people will enjoy SUPER GT.” He also stated that GTA will provide cooperation for expansion of interaction between the two countries as well as motorization of Thailand through motorsports. “We, GTA, are wishing to contribute to the development of motorsports in Thailand through the SUPER GT event and hoping to see the day where a Thai driver and a Japanese driver go head to head for a victory in SUPER GT in future.”
