Seeds and the number of cars in a race announced for 2017.の画像

SUPER GT series operator GTA has recently announced the seeds and the number of cars permitted to compete in the race at each event.

Seed is a privilege to be allowed to compete in a race if given conditions, such as repair of the car, etc., are met even if a car faces a situation where it cannot advance to the race due a reason, such as not participating in the qualifying, etc.

There was only one type of seed until last year, but in 2017 the seeds will be divided into three: Seed A, Seed B, and Group C.

Structure of seeds

Seed A
(1) All teams in GT500 class.
(2) Top 18 teams of 2016 GT300 class team standings.
Seed B
(3) International team entered in GT300 class. [Maximum 2 teams]

(4) Car fielded by a team which has participated continuously since 2008 and entered in GT300 class in 2016. [Other than (2)]

(5) Team ranked 42nd or above in 2016 team standings. [excluding (2) - (4) above]
Group C
(6) Existing team other than (2) - (5).
(7) Team newly entering GT300.

*48 cars in total from (1) to (7).

Seed A will consist of all cars of GT500 class (15 teams) and 18 cars in the top 18 of 2016 GT300 class team standings. (Refer table below for the respective teams).
International bracket (maximum two teams) will be reserved for one car fielded by No.35 PANTHER TEAM THAILAND this season. In addition to this, a seat is expected to be reserved at the Thai event for a local wildcard team.
Seed B will have the teams other than those in Seed A and International bracket which have been participating continuously from 2008 to last year and the teams in the top 42 of 2016 team standings. Eight teams meet the criteria this season. Reason for this year's new entrant No.52 SAITAMA TOYOPET GreenBrave MARK X MC being in Seed B is that it acquired and took over an entry from an existing team that originally qualified for Seed B. (2017 Participation Regulations 8.7)
Remainder will be in Group C, which will be three teams this season.
