GT500 Class

No.100 RAYBRIG NSX CONCEPT-GT

Naoki Yamamoto

After the start I had a hard time picking up the pace and car No. 46 was very fast, so I thought it would be hard for us to win and just kept driving with the aim of turning over the car to Izawa at the pit stop with the best position possible. It was in that situation that there was an accident that brought out the Safety Car and allowed us to reset our mentality. After the driver change, Izawa did a great job for us, but it was a bit difficult for me to watch. I am glad that I was able to team with Izawa again and win. I am grateful to everyone on the team and at Honda.

Takuya Izawa

In the pre-race tests, things felt good to me, so I thought we had a chance of winning the race this time. But, I was disappointed that I wasn't able to be the fastest in the qualifying. In the race, when [Naoki] Yamamoto was able to get the car to me in 2nd position, I decided to run with the aim of improving one more place on that position. In our pit stop the tire change also went well, so I would have to say that this victory was the result of great performances by the machine, the tires and the drivers together.

Taking the checkered flag [and win] this tame felt different from any time in the past. I was just tremendously happy. So happy that I thought of taking this opportunity to retire as a driver [laughs]. I have known my partner today, Takamitsu [Matsui] for about ten years now, and I had long dreamed that we might see a day like this. This time it was Takamitsu that brought us the victory. Being its debut year, there is still a lot of trouble with the mother chassis, but with all our comrades we have worked to come this far, and that is what I feel we owe this victory to.

Competing fort the first time in SUPER GT this year and being able to win like this makes me very happy. The 86 with the mother chassis that we are driving with now is really well suited to the SUGO course, and I think that is a big reason we got this win. The Yokohama tires we used were also good and the team staff did a great job, and the car was in good condition. To tell the truth, we had a problem with the radio from the start and there was a problem with [rubber] pickup on the tires that also made things difficult, but we were still able to win.
