From the morning's practice session, the car was running in good condition in both long and short runs, but before the afternoon Qualifying I talked with the engineers we decided to try to get settings that were still one step better. In Q1, James [Rossiter] got us some good data, and using that we adjusted the machine a bit and made it even faster, so all I had to do was drive fast. I am very happy to have won pole position for the second year in a row.

In the official test session conducted here before this opening round, I has crashed, after which the whole team had to work together to repair the machine, and we were able to run a test a week later at Fuji Speedway. That's how we were able to recover and get back to race competitiveness. That is what made me happiest of all. Working from a [machine] setting that we discovered by chance at Fuji, we were able to win this pole position. I think that by round three at Autopolis (where the mother chassis cars perform especially well) we will be even faster. But before that, I want to see us run well in tomorrow's race so we can be here again at tomorrow's press conference.
