On October 15th (Sun.), Just before Race 1 of the final round of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) championship series held in Hockenheim, Germany, demonstration runs were again made by the two GT500 class SUPER GT cars and three DTM cars prior to the final race as the day before.
Again the event was blessed with fair weather at Hockenheim. Over the three days of this final round of the season, there was a large total turnout of some 150,000 spectators, and again this day the fans were able to savor the sight of the GT500 cars in action. (Photo courtesy of DTM)
Both Heikki Kovalainen in the No. 093 Lexus LC500 (test car) and Ronnie Quintarelli in the No. 1 MOTUL AUTECH GT-R (2016 model) drove aggressively and showed the Hockenheim fans the speed of the GT500 cars.
While the DTM cars are powered by 4000cc natural aspirated V8 engines, the GT500 cars are mount light and powerful 2000cc in-line 4-cylinder direct-injection turbocharged engines that have been in development since 2014 and refined in actual racing. Once again these two GT500 cars ran joint demo runs with three DTM cars.
After the demo runs, all five cars, the LC500 and GT-R and the BMW M4 DTM, Audi RS5 DTM and Mercedes Benz AMG C63 DTM were lined up on the straight in front of the grandstand for commemorative photos with Masaaki Bandoh, Chairman of GTA Co., Ltd and Gerhard Berger, Chairman of Internationalen Tourenwagen Rennen e.V. (ITR).
On this day of the final race of the last round of the DTM season, Kovalainen served as a presenter at the awards ceremony for the European F3 championship round that was held along with the DTM round, and Chaiman Bandoh served as the presenter of the Manufacturer Champion trophy in the award ceremony for the DTM season champions held after the DTM race. In these ways, Chairman Bandoh and the two GT500 cars and their drivers fulfilled their roles as important guests in this memorable exchange in Germany.
