On February 9th, Subaru Corporation and Subaru Tecnica International Inc. announced their motorsports program outlined for 2018. Two companies had already proclaimed their continued commitment to SUPER GT's GT300 class this season with a SUBARU BRZ GT300 at Tokyo Auto Salon held in January. The announcement revealed the detail of the racing team including the driver lineup.
In strong determination to bounce back from disappointing season last year and tackle the upcoming season fully fit, SUBARU and STI modified the BRZ GT300 for this season including improved thermal efficiency in the horizontally-opposed boxer engine, matured aerodynamics, increased thermal capacity of brakes, and better contact efficiency of the tires.
The team will have the same driver combination as last year, Takuto Iguchi and Hideki Yamauchi. Appointing Makoto Shibuya, Project General Manager, STI, as the team's general manager, STI's aim is to win the series title with entrusted team operator, R&D Sport.
STI is celebrating 30th anniversary since its establishment this year. The company reemphasized their commitment to keep challenging in motorsports in their announcement for this season, "STI will strive to be a company which can meet customer expectations through the development of Complete Cars based on SUBARU vehicles and STI Performance Parts which underscore ‘Enjoyment & Peace of Mind’ which SUBARU vehicles provide as well as motorsport activities."
