On May 24, in the capital of Bangkok, a press conference was held to announce the Chang SUPER GT RACE to be run on June 16 and 17 as Round 4 of the 2018 series.

In attendance at the press conference were Mr. Newin Chidchob, President of Buriram United International Circuit Co, Ltd. that runs the race venue, Chang International Circuit, Mr. Masaaki Bandoh, Chairman of GTA Co., Ltd. that runs the SUPER GT series and Mr. Korawit Wongprasert, TAT Executive Director of the Tourism Investment Dept., Tourism Authority of Thailand. Also in attendance were representatives of the local Toyota and Honda companies as well as the two drivers from the No. 35 arto-Panther Team Thailand team that has been participating full-time in the SUPER GT series since last season who were invited as special guests, and the many members of the press present.

In his speech, President Newin promised to continue to contribute to motorsport in Thailand, saying: “It has been five years since our circuit was constructed. Now we are proudly hosting a MotoGP round as well. And besides the SUPER GT, we also host many other races in different categories that teams from Thailand are participating in and I am very glad and grateful to see how well they are competing. I hope we will soon be seeing Thai drivers and riders winning podium finishes and championships. Also, thanks to the SUPER GT, I feel that there has been a growth in the Thai race queen culture. Until now, motorsport has had the image of a sport enjoyed mainly by the wealthy, but now we want to change that concept and make motorsport something that many people can enjoy and also become a sport that contributes to the economy. I want to continue to contribute to the development of Thai motorsport.”

As for the GTA chairman Bandoh, he looked back over the last few years, saying: “This will be the fifth time that a SUPER GT round will be held here at this circuit. During this time there has been big progress in the quality of the race management, concern for safety and the environment for the spectators. This makes me very glad to see. I want to express my appreciation for these efforts to Mr. Newin and all the people at BRIC.”
He then went on to announce that the SUPER GT round will be held here again next year, saying: “We at GTA want to continue to hold this SUPER GT round in Thailand in hopes that more and more people will become interested in motorsport, and in hopes that we can contribute to the development of motor sports in Thailand. And I would like to announce that we have just signed an agreement for the holding of this round in Thailand in 2018 and 2019.”
