[Sprint Cup: Qualifying] SYNTIUM LMcorsa RC F GT3 Takes Pole Position, based on total time for the two drivers

On November 23 (Sat.), the qualifying for the primarily GT300 class cars competing in the “auto sport Web Sprint Cup” race held as a jointly organized race with the “AUTOBACS 45th Anniversary presents SUPER GT X DTM Dream Race” began at 8:40 in the morning and the pole position was won by the No. 60 SYNTIUM LMcorsa RC F GT3 (drivers: Hiroki Yoshimoto / Ritomo Miyata).

 

 

The “auto sport Web Sprint Cup” this time is being competed by 12 cars, including seven that competed in the GT300 class this year and five FIA GT3 cars that competed in Super Taikyu or Suzuka 10 Hours races. Both the morning qualifying and the noontime race were held on this day Nov. 23.

The official qualifying for this race began at 8:40 in the morning with ten minutes each for the A Drivers and B Drivers. The total time for the two drivers of each team would then determine the starting grid for the Race 1 grid scheduled to start at 11:50.

Unlike the jointly held Dream Race, in which only the designated one-make tires are to be used, for this race the cars would be using the other makes they usually use in the SUPER GT series and their other races. The morning had been cloudy until then, but just before the track was opened for the A Drivers qualifying a light rain began to fall.

Hoping to get in good lap times in the early part of the session while the track conditions were still good, the cars hurried through their warm-ups. Then, on the 4th lap, the No. 25 HOPPY 86 MC (Takamitsu Matsui) recorded a time of 1’47.376. Then on this next lap, Matsui recorded a 1’47.088 lap to take the top time in the A Drvers session. Second fastest was the No. 60 SYNTIUM LMcorsa RC F GT3 (Hiroki Yoshimoto) and third fastest was the No. 360 RUNUP RIVAUX GT-R (Takayuki Aoki). The fourth fastest time went to the No. 48 SHOKUMOU GO&FUN GT-R (Taiyou Iida) and the fifth spot went to the No. 52 SAITAMATOYOPET GB MARK X MC (Shigekazu Wakisaka), giving the GT300 teams the top five places. Qualifying 6th in this session was the No.11 Planex sumacam McLaren 720S (Katsuaki Kubota).

 

 

 

After a 10-minute interval, the B Drivers qualifying session began at 9:00. The rain was still falling lightly when the B Drivers started their time attacks. But, the rain started to fall harder just as they were about to finish their warm-ups.

The fastest time of 1’45.029 was recorded by the No. 60 SYNTIUM LMcorsa RC F GT3 (Ritomo Miyata). The team’s total time with Yoshimoto’s from the A Drivers session came to 3’32.633, which won the pole position. Second fastest was the No. 25 HOPPY 86 MC (Kimiya Sato) with a time of 1’46.047 that gave the team a total time of 3’33.135 to qualify in 2nd position. Finishing the qualifying in 3rd position was the No. 52 SAITAMATOYOPET GB MARK X MC with A Driver Shigekazu Wakisaka’s 1’48.731 time and B Driver Hiroki Yoshida’s 1’46.248.
Fourth fastest in the B Drivers qualifying was the No. 30 TOYOTA GR SPORTS PRIUS PHV apr GT (Manabu Orido) and fifth fastest was the No. 48 SHOKUMOU GO&FUN GT-R (Katsuaki Tanaka). Based on team total times, this meant that the top five qualifiers were GT300 teams. Taking 6th position in the qualifying was the No. 11 Planex sumacam McLaren 720S that competed in the Suzuka 10 Hours.
