The organization will enhance its effort through SUPER GT in environmental initiative along its newly drawn roadmap, SUPER GT Green Project 2030. The project will be kicked off with an aim to half the CO2 (carbon dioxide) emitted from the entire series by 2030.
Outline of SUPER GT Green Project 2030
1. Promote carbon neutral (CN) throughout the series to half the CO2 emission by 2030.
2. Put full effort to "What we can do now".
3. Retain "Exhaust note".
Chairman Bandoh explained in detail the steps to be taken to realize the plan starting from 2023 to 2030. "Along with various initiatives carried for environmental issues, we need to create an environment where our fans and customers would have fun watching and that would make them wanting to visit here (circuit)", Bandoh commented. As the promoter of the series, GTA will roll out new initiatives in its race operation, including introduction of Carbon Neutral Fuel (CNF = biomass-origin non-fossil fuel), reduction of the number of tires allowed to bring into the circuit, mandating deployment of a new car model in GT500 class in 2024 (for promoting improvement of fuel efficiency technology), mandating deployment of a new model in GT500 class in 2027 (adoption of HEV or other electrification technology to be explored within 2022-2023), introduction of domestic e-fuel to both GT500 and 300 classes, etc., and, furthermore, encourage hosting circuits on reducing wastes and recycling of plastics, etc., which Bandoh called out to motorsports fans to be a part of the project, "fans on the stands and us in the paddock have to work together". In addition, the chairman stated that further effort will be put to deepen the understanding of its environmental initiative by holding motorsports event that can co-exist with the local governments and communities of where the circuits are located.
Chairman Bandoh also stressed that SUPER GT will be the first to use CNF 100% from 2023. Goal is to still have a race where sounds are allowed in 2030 by working proactively in different areas with everybody involved, according to Bandoh, "We won't know until we try. That's why we try. And we will build one by one, one over the other."
