Along with the recent announcement of some of the SUPER GT Sporting Regulation revisions, measures will be introduced for the 2024 season aimed at improving safety in the competition by reducing the cornering speed of the participating cars. Here we will introduce the contents of measures aimed at improving safety in both classes.
Since GTA recognizes that there are no policies that can ensure absolute safety, throughout the season continued efforts will be devoted the examination of further safety measures from the standpoint of both the Sporting and Technical aspects.

Raised minimum ground clearance for the GT500 cars to control downforce

From the perspective of improving safety in the competition, measures have been implemented this season for the cars competing in both the GT500 and GT300 classes to limit maximum speed and cornering speed. To reduce the amount of downforce that contributes directly to machine speed compared to the level until now, for the GT500 class cars the minimum thickness of the skid block that controls the car’s minimum ground clearance has been increased to raise ground clearance by 5 mm.

Additional weight to be carried by GT300 cars to reduce speed. Considering the amount of added weight, Success Weight will be reduced

Besides the existing Balance of Performance (BoP – requirement for participation for each round) weight limits that are set for each make of car, additional weight must now be carried (see table below). This will enable control of the cornering speed of the GT300 cars. The additional weight amounts for each car make will apply throughout the season and will be separate from the BoP requirements. The additional weight will be added onto the minimum weight requirement for each car make at the given rounds to determine the overall combined weight with the BoP weight allotment.
This additional weight is of a similar standard to that of the special BoP applied until the opening Okayama Round of the 2022 season and was calculated as a set ratio based on the minimum weight for each car make and whether the engine was naturally aspirated or turbo powered. GTA, also sees limiting aerodynamic performance as a method for limiting cornering speed, but consideration continued in light of FIA GT3 car homologations and the effect on BoP. Therefore, as a measure for the start of the 2024 season, the decision was made to choose the carrying of additional weight.

Since the weight of each car will increase as a result of this adoption of additional weight, the possibility also arises that, together with the Success Weight load, problems in car safety can occur. For this reason, it was decided to reduce the Success Weight load this season for the GT300 class. Until now, the maximum limit for Success Weight was 100 kg for both classes, but this season the maximum weight for the GT300 class is reduced to 80 kg. Also, whereas for the 2nd to 6th rounds of the series a Success Weight of 3 kg was added for each series point gained, this season the increase will be reduced to 2 kg per point same as for the GT500 class. In the same way, for the 7th round the previous 1.5 kg per point has been reduced to 1 kg. Furthermore, whereas the maximum limit for the GT500 class will be 100 kg as it was last season and for cars carrying more than 50 kg further points were compensated for with fuel-flow resister settings, the addition of 2 kg per point in the 2nd to 6th rounds and 1 kg for the 7th round will remain the same.
