On January 17th, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Nissan Motorsports & Customizing Co., Ltd. (NMC) announced the make-up of the teams they will be entering in the 2025 SUPER GT series GT500 class. As with last season, there will be four teams participating in the GT500 class with four Nissan Z NISMO GT500 machines in an attempt to win back the title. As for the GT300 class, the make-up of the customer teams participating with Nissan machines will be announced at another time. First of all, because of the fact that 4-time winner of the GT500 championship, Ronnie Quintarelli, ended his participation as a driver as of last season, the driver pair that drove the NISMO car No. 3 the year before last will come back together for the coming season. Katsumasa Chiyo will continue to drive, and he will be joined by Mitsunori Takaboshi, who drove car No. 3 until last season. The Team principal will be Takeshi Nakajima. As for the No. 3 NDDP NISMO team, Atsushi Miyake will drive again this season, and he will be joined by Daiki Sasaki, who returns to the GT500 class after driving car No. 56 in the GT300 class last year. Serving again as Team principal for the No. 3 team will be Jiro Shimada. The TEAM IMPUL car No. 12 will be competing with the same driver pair as last season. The 2022 class champion, Kazuki Hiramine, will team again with Bertrand Baguette in an attempt to win back the title. The team will be led by Director Kazuyoshi Hoshino, with Kazuki Hoshino taking on the job of Team principal. These three teams mentioned above will be racing on Bridgestone tires like last season. As for the KONDO RACING team car No. 24, it will be driven again this season by the same driver pair of Tsugio Matsuda and Teppei Natori and will again run on Yokohama tires. Of course, Masahiko Kondo will remain as Team principal. What’s more, former GT500 champion Masataka Yanagida will continue in his capacity as Executive Adviser. Also, Ronnie Quintarelli, who has ended his activities as a GT500 driver, will now assume new roles as a NISMO Ambassador and Adviser. These two will be supporting the four teams and eight drivers in these capacities. Furthermore, the inauguration of Kunihiko Kakimoto, who has long served as a NISMO Advisor, as an Honorary NISMO Advisor has also been announced. A release was also issued, in which CEO Takao Katagiri, the head of the Nissan motorsport business unit NMC, said the following about the ambitions for the coming season. “We will be entering this season’s SUPER GT with the aim of recapturing the championship by entering teams organized with the capability to win races. Two of these teams will have new driver pairs and the other two will compete with the same drivers as last season. From next week, we will begin full-fledged efforts in preparation for the 2025 season, and the development crews and the teams will be working together to further strengthen the competitiveness of the Nissan Z NISMO GT500. Again this season, in order to give the fans a taste of the great excitement motor sports can deliver, we will give all we are capable of. So, we hope that you will continue to cheer us on.”
