【GTA Regular Press Conference: Rd.1 Okayama】 Chairman Bandoh explains the progress in introducing carbon-neutral fuel this season

On the morning of the opening round of the 2023 AUTOBACS SUPER GT series, GTA Co., Ltd. held its regular press conference to discuss the progress regarding the carbon neutral fuel (CNF) GTA R100 (manufactured by Haltermann Carless) that is being introduced this season.

After repeated testing since the end of last season, the GT500 class began to use the GTA R100 fuel as scheduled from the opening round. However, on April 3, before the Okayama race (season opener), GTA announced the postponement of its introduction for the GT300 class.

The GTA R100 was tested on each vehicle, and in the GT500 class, adjustments were made through bench tests to confirm engine compliance in areas such as ignition and dilution. It was thus decided that the fuel could be used from the opening round for the GT500 class, but in the GT300 class, which uses various different car makes from Japan and overseas, there were issues such as a phenomenon of the fuel becoming mixed with engine oil when driving with some cars in their current state. For this reason, it was decided that some time was still needed to make further adjustments. It was explained, "It doesn’t have to be 'right now,' so let's wait a little longer to make adjustments."

In line with this, on May 8th and 9th, after the second round at Fuji, the GT Entrant Association plans to hold tests for GT300 class cars at Suzuka Circuit, and the participating cars will run driving tests using the GTA R100 fuel. It was explained that, "After each team has made adjustments, we are planning to confirm whether the fuel can be used by all cars from the Suzuka race."

Finally, it was concluded that, "All the teams and everyone involved have no negative objections about the fuel, and it’s use is something that must be done, so we will make sure to make sure that all the necessary steps are taken for the introduction of this fuel. It is necessary to make it possible to handle it in the same way as unleaded high-octane gasoline at ordinary gas stations. That's what we're working toward."
