【Round 3 Malaysia】 Outline of the Sepang Round: The Race starts on Saturday evening, Official Practice is added on Thursday, GT300 participants are 17 cars plus two wildcards

With the approach of the 2025 AUTOBACS SUPER GT Round 3 “SUPER GT MALAYSIA FESTIVAL 2025” on June 27 (Friday: Qualifying) and June 28 (Saturday: Race / 300 km) the outline of the round has been announced in bulletins and other notices.
Due to the fact that Round 3 Sepang is being held overseas, it is being held under a different format from series rounds held in Japan, regarding things like the number of cars participating and the fact that the race will be held on Saturday. We therefore introduce several items of information that will be useful for spectators.

■The GT300 class will have 17 participants plus 2 local wildcard entries for a total of 19

All 15 GT500 class cars entered this season will be participating in this round.
The number of participants in the GT300 class is limited to 18 cars that hold A-seeded qualification, of which 17 will participate. Added to these will be two local (wildcard) entries, meaning that the total number of cars competing in both classes will be 34.

■The round’s schedule begins with an Official Practice session on Thursday evening, another Official Practice session on Friday morning and the Qualifying in the afternoon, with the race starting Saturday evening

The Sepang round schedule is set with concern for the intense midday heat in Malaysia by basically having important runs begin in the evening. In addition, the June 27 (Friday) GT300 class Qualifying Q1 session will begin at 16:30 local time, and the 300 km Race on June 28 (Saturday) will also begin at 16:30 local time and end with the checkered flag at around 18:30.
What’s more, since this will be the first official SUPER GT Sepang round since 2013, there will be many drivers who have no experience there, for which reason an 80-minute Official Practice session will be added on June 26 (Thursday) and a 60-minute Official Practice session on the morning of June 27 (Friday).

■The number of tires that can be brought in for use is six sets for dry-use tires

For the Sepang round, the number of tires that can be brought in for use by one car is six sets for dry-use tires and eight sets for wet-use tires. These counts also apply for the Thursday Official Practice session.
*Note that the normal number of sets of marking tires allowed for a 300 km race is four sets of dry-use tires and six sets of wet-use tires.

Also note that, as with other rounds in the series, one extra set of dry-use tires per car is allowed for GT500 class teams whose tire makers do not yet have a win in the season.

■ The number of GT300 class cars that advance to Q2 is 12

In the Sepang round, the same knock-out type Official Qualifying format with Q1 and Q2 sessions as used in the other rounds is adopted.
As with other rounds, the number of cars that can advance to Q2 in the GT500 class is the top ten finishers of Q1, while in the GT300 class the number of cars that can advance to Q2 is reduced to 12 compared to rounds in Japan. Thus, the top six qualifying teams of the Q1 Group A and Group B sessions will advance to Q2, for a total of 12 cars.
