【Round 4 FUJI: Race 2】 Qualifying GT500: Fukuzumi in the ENEOS X PRIME GR Supra gets a come-from-behind pole position to repay the team for their hard work!

 

The Official Qualifying for Race 2 of the “FUJI GT SPRING RACE, Round 4 of the 2025 AUTOBACS SUPER GT series, was held on August 3rd at Fuji Speedway (one lap 4,563 m) in Shizuoka Prefecture. This time, two sprint races were run by a different driver from Race 1. In the GT500 class Nirei Fukuzumi in the No. 14 ENEOS X PRIME GR Supra got a hard-earned pole position in the machine that had suffered a crash in Race 1 and was repaired in time for this qualifying. In the GT300 class, carrying on the momentum from yesterday’s Race 1, Tomonobu Fujii drove the No. 777 D’station Vantage GT3 to a consecutive class pole position for the team in its aim for a second straight win. Race 2 was run as two separate 50-minute sprint races with the GT300 class race starting at 2:15 in the afternoon and the GT500 class starting at 4:50 in the afternoon, and these two pole winners started from the front row in their respective races.

■ The Race 1 winner, car No.1 is slow to take to the track. The full-fledged time attacks begin in the last minute

The track was opened for the start of the GT500 class Official Qualifying for Race 2 at 11:30 in the morning. As with the previous day’s Race 1 qualifying, it would be a 10-minute session. As is standard for GT500 the qualifying, none of the cars left the pit when the track first opened. This time as well, most of the cars remained in their garages at first.

With about 8 minutes remaining in the session, threes cars including the No. 23 MOTUL AUTECH Z (Katsumasa Chiyo) finally left their pits, and these were followed by other cars one after another. With about 6 minutes remaining, all the cars were finally on the track.

As the cars carefully increased their pace over their 2nd and 3rd laps on the track, Yamashita in the No. 1 au TOM’S GR Supra that had won Race 1 and had taken some time to enter the track, made up for the slow start by rapidly increasing his pace to record a time of 1’31.447 on his 2nd lap and continued his warm-up at a fast pace.

With one minute remaining in the session, it was the No. 64 Modulo CIVIC TYPE R-GT (Riki Okusa) that suddenly started its time attack on its 3rd lap and recorded a fast time of 1’28.137. This time became the target as the intensity of the time attacks increased.

 

 

■ After No. 1 set a top time on the last lap, Fukuzumi in car No. 14 came brilliantly from behind to take pole position!

Following No. 64, it was the No. 12 TRS IMPUL with SDG Z (Kazuki Hiramine) that made the next time attack and recorded a second fastest lap of 1’28.145. But then, the expected leader, car No. 1 ran a top time of 1’27.675.

Even after the checkered flag was shown, the cars on the track were still making their final time attacks. The No. 38 KeePer CERUMO GR Supra (Hiroaki Ishiura) then recorded the second fastest time after car No. 1 with a 1’27.938 lap. And then, the No. 14 ENEOS X PRIME GR Supra (Nirei Fukuzumi) beat No. 1’s time to take pole position in brilliant fashion with a time of 1’27.477.

In Race 1, car No. 14 had crashed after a collision with another car and suffered serious damage to the machine, but the team’s mechanics worked desperately on the damaged car, and Fukuzumi later reported that at 3:00 a.m. in the morning they had finally completed the repairs. So, this pole position was one that Fukuzumi won to repay their valiant efforts.

Then came No. 1 to take 2nd position in the qualifying for the second day in a row. Car No. 38 took 3rd position in the qualifying for its spot to go into the race. As for the other TOYOTA GR Supra GT500 cars, they gave Toyota a clean sweep of the top five positions in the qualifying.

As for car No. 64, it took 6th position as the fastest qualifier among the Honda CIVIC TYPE R-GT cars. And No. 12 became the fastest qualifier among the Nissan Z NISMO GT500 cars by finishing in 7th as its starting position for the race.
