The 2025 AUTOBACS SUPER GT season will begin in less than one month. The other day, this year’s first SUPER GT Official Tests were held at the Okayama International Circuit, where the opening round of the season will be held (April 12th, 13th), and at the tests we interviewed seven drivers who are the focus of particular attention in the GT500 class. Here we introduce their comments, as they look forward to the opening round. The sixth driver we interviewed was Sacha Fenestraz, who is credited with taking one win in the GT500 class in 2022, after which he competed overseas in Formula series. This year he returns to Japan to compete again in the Gt500 class for the No. 39 DENSO KOBELCO SARD GR Supra team.
Sacha FenestrazNo. 39 DENSO KOBELCO SARD GR Supra
−−Welcome back, Sacha. Can we ask you to introduce yourself for the fans again? It is two years since I last drove in SUPER GT, and I am happy to be back here again. SUPER GT and Super Formula are both championships that I like very much, and I am also very happy to be back in Japan again. Previously, I raced in SUPER GT for three years (2020 – 2022) driving the TEAM TOM’S cars No. 36 and 37. I drove together with Yuhi Sekiguchi in 2020 in the No. 36 car, and after that I drove in car No. 37 with Ritomo Miyata and Ryo Hirakawa. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I only drove with Hirakawa in just two rounds. No, it was three rounds (the last three rounds of the 2021 season). −−This year you will be joining a new team, the TGR TEAM SARD, how does its atmosphere feel for you? Since I will be competing with a new team this time, I have to get accustomed to the differences. But I feel that it (TEAM SARD) is a very good team. Both the Team manager, Juichi Wakisaka, and all the team members are very professional, and as you know, I drove together with Sekiguchi in 2020. His driving style and mine are very similar, and a new engineer, (Kazuya) Abe has also joined the team, and I think it is going to be a good season for us. Of course, for that to happen we will all have to work hard. −−Now will you tell us about your expectations for the opening round. Well, I really have to say that I think it is too early to begin talking about my goals for this year. When the Okayama official tests and the ones to come at Fuji Speedway are all over, perhaps then I will be able get some kind of vision regarding my goals for the year. Of course, I want to be able to help us get as many series points as we can during the season, and I would like to see us get some podium finishes.
In the next interview, we will talk with Kazuto Kotaka, who has done well in the GT300 class and now moves up to the GT500 class as a reserve driver for a Toyota team. We hope you will look forward to it.
