* Interviewed at the Official tests at Fuji
Igor Omura Fraga No. 64 Modulo HRC PRELUDE-GT(GT500 class rookie)
− You have finally gotten a seat in the GT500 class driving the HRC PRELUDE-GT, haven’t you. Would you please tell us how you came to step up this way? I got the offer at the end of last season. I had driven for NAKAJIMA Racing in Super Formula (SF) the year before last as a reserve driver, and then I was moved up to become a regular driver for them last season and I did well getting a win at SUZUKA (Round 10), and also got a podium finish at Motegi (Round 3), and I was able to get series points at all but two of the 12 races. Thanks to that success I believe I was chosen to move up to the GT500 team.
− That means you have been driving for the NAKAJIMA Racing since last season, so have you thoroughly gotten used to the team? Since my SF days I have been familiar with the same mechanics and engineers, and they are very easy to communicate with, and also, I was able to have (Takuya) Izawa-san as our manager in SF. Because of that I felt reassured, and I was able to enter the GT500 Modulo Nakajima Racing team with no problems.
− So, it seems that you have no problems with the team, but now Honda has a new GT500 car, the HRC PRELUDE-GT. Could you please tell us your impression of the car? The operating system is completely different from the RC-F GT3 (No. 26) in the GT300 class that I drove last year and since the GT500 cars have many aspects that require development and settings even within the touring car category, you have to do a lot of completely different things in the way of feedback, and all of it is at a high level. Since we were able to do testing at the tests in Sepang and the Fuji (both maker tests in January and February) and to steadily run a full menu of tests on the tires and the car setup at the Official Tests at Okayama, I have a good feeling going into (this season). So, my impression is that we are going in well prepared.
− So, it sounds like you should be able to go into the opening round at Okayama in good shape, aren’t you? But since SUPER GT races are quite difficult, I really can’t say for sure how it will go. Personally, my goal this season, regardless of the results of each race, is to maintain a strong feeling that I will give it my all in each race. My goal for this season is to be well prepared and be able to give solid feedback during race week. And in the process, I want to get at least one win. And for that reason, I know I will have to go into Okayama well prepared.
In our next interview we will talk with Kazuhisa Urabe, who has experience racing in FIA-F4 Championship and last year served as the third driver for the No. 2 HYPER WATER INGING GR86 GT, while this season he has earned a regular seat in the No. 2 car. We hope you will look forward to it.
